Annual Picnic
The Puget Sound Birth Center picnic was held on
Saturday September 18th 2010, in a miraculous break in the rain!
Thanks to everyone who came along--it was a treat to see you all
and see how your families are growing.
The 2011 picnic will be held on a Saturday in
September...look for an invite in August!
Childbirth Classes
Childbirth Classes for Puget Sound Birth Center are
taught by PSMBC client and volunteer, Liz Chalmers. Here is more
information from Liz: "Birth Zone classes emphasize the
simplicity of the process and the power of your body to do the
work. At the end of the series of classes, my goal is that you
will be:
- more confident of your ability to birth
- more equipped with techniques you can turn to in
labor
- more knowledgeable about the process and the paths you may take
- more capable of making informed decisions regarding
your care
- for the birth partner: more confident of your role
Whether you give birth--as most of you will--using
only your own resources, or whether you require some
assistance along the way, I hope you will look back on
the birth of your baby with satisfaction and joy. I wish
you the best of births."
Classes are available both for first-time parents and for those looking for a refresher class.

Wondering what it is, how it works, and if it’s the right choice
for you?
Then this class is for you!
Nancy Allin, CHt is a mother, grandmother, clinical
hypnotherapist, and

Nancy has taught Hypnosis for Birth for 11 years. In this class
session she
will go over the basics of Hypnosis for Birth, how it works in
birth,
specific situations that benefit from hypnosis, as well as
answer your
questions.

Saturday of the
month. The
session starts at 10AM and last approximately 1˝ hours.
To reserve your space or for more information, call Nancy at

Successful Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is THE way to give your baby optimal nutrition. It
can be one of the most rewarding experiences you have with your
baby. It can also present some challenges. This class discusses
why breastfeeding is the best possible food source for your
baby, how to latch your baby onto the breast, how to prevent
common problems, and other pertinent breastfeeding issues. Have
your questions answered in this relaxed, yet informative class.
Kristina Chamberlain is a Certified Nurse-Midwife and an
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She has
worked with breastfeeding families for over 5 years. She is
currently breastfeeding her own daughter, with whom she has had
to overcome her own share of challenges--proof that it can be
done!
It’s best to take this class in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy.
Dads/Partners are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

Babywearing
Karen Shelver is a former PSBC client and an expert on baby
carriers. Karen's class gives you a chance to try different
types of carriers and learn how to use them effectively. You can
also bring a carrier you already own and get tips on how to make
it work better.
The class can be taken prenatally--you can use a doll to
practice with. But it's probably most valuable when you can try
your unique baby in different carriers.
The class costs $10 and runs from 10am-11am, usually on the 3rd Saturday
of every month. For more information about the classes or to
register, call Karen at (425) 681-3132 or email her at
KarenShelver@gmail.com. You can also visit her website at
