All Change at the Front
Desk (again!)
Transitions are always interesting times!
Our new office manager Sandy has decided to move on to other opportunities.
We wish her all the very best. Just as we were getting ready to embark on
recruiting a replacement, our previous office manager Grace contacted us to
say she was interested in coming back. To say we are thrilled would be an
understatement. Grace's first day back is Thursday April 5th.
All (Diaper!) Change in
the Toperosky Household
The formal announcement will have to wait until the newly
enlarged family is out from under the pile of laundry, but we would like to
congratulate PSBC midwife Ali Toperosky on the birth of Raphael on February
11th, a brother for Gabriel to whom so many of you donated breastmilk.
Speaking of which, Raphael is likely to be every bit as hungry as Gabriel.
If you have any extra breastmilk you would be willing to donate, please
email
OfficeManager@birthcenter.com
Want a Fun Evening
Supporting Midwifery?
On April 28th, Seattle Midwifery School is
holding its annual dinner and fundraising auction. This event is always
highly entertaining and a fabulous way to support midwifery.
This year, one of the PSBC
midwives--Valerie Sasson--and long-time PSBC volunteer and childbirth
educator Liz Chalmers are hosting a table which we hope to fill with PSBC
clients.
Tickets for this event are $65 per person
if purchased before April 15th, and $75 per person after that. For more
information or to buy tickets, please visit the SMS website:http://www.seattlemidwifery.org/auction.htm
Birth Suite Cleaner Needed
We have a team of 3 cleaners who share the
responsibility of cleaning birth suites after each birth. One of our
cleaners is leaving to have a baby soon, so we are looking for a
replacement. The role of birth suite cleaner entails:
1. Being "on-call" 1 week out of every 3.
2. Committing to coming in to clean a birth
suite within 2 hours of being called, night and day.
3. Attention to detail and a passion for
ensuring the safety of moms and babies by thoroughly cleaning all surfaces
in the birth suite according to protocols, and completing all laundry from a
birth.
Birth suite cleaners are paid $65 per birth
suite cleaned.
If you are interested in more information
about this important role, please email
OfficeManager@birthcenter.com
Progress of Licensing Law
Legislation
We cannot thank you enough for your efforts
helping to push the Licensing Law through. There are so few midwives that it
would be all too easy for the lawmakers to ignore midwifery issues, but
luckily midwives are blessed with impassioned clients.
The bill that would make the licensing fee
structure fairer is deep within the legislative process right now. It's very
likely we will need your continued support to get it passed, so look for
updates and pleas for more help soon!
Class Updates
The 4th Trimester
We are delighted that Kat is back from
maternity leave and available to host the postpartum 4th Trimester group
again. It's a perfect chance for moms to attend a postpartum support group
facilitated by an expert who can truly empathize!
The first session will be April 20th.
More info about the 4th
Trimester:
This class is a combination of parenting education and
support group. It provides a chance to get together with other
new moms, dads, and babies and share the challenges and joy of
the amazing life transition you're in the midst of. The class is
ideal if your baby is newborn-6 months old. You're also welcome
to join the class before your baby is born to get a head start
on the postpartum issues. The class meets at PSBC on Fridays
from 10am to noon. $5 drop-in fee or $50 for 12 class punch
card. The class is facilitated by Kat Byrne. For more
information, email Kat at
babymoondoula@earthlink.net
