You probably noticed the extreme
lack of punctuation in the Postpartum Depression article in the June
newsletter. Matthew Tiemeyer's
original piece was impeccably punctuated.
It was a combination of technical problems and inadequate editing on my part
that caused all apostrophes and quotation marks to be omitted. Our apologies
to Matthew!
You can find the fully-punctuated article
on the birth center website where we archive newsletters:
http://birthcenter.com/news_newsletter.htm. Look for the June
2006 issue.

Listening Mothers Class
Listening Mothers have run very successful parenting classes for many years,
so we are pleased to offer their program at the birth center for the first
time. The first 8-week series starts on September 22nd from 1:00--2:30pm.
Listening Mothers focuses on the mother’s and baby’s experience and the
relationship they share with each other. Integrating recent research
findings with the intuition and understanding mothers have for their babies
sets the foundation for long lasting emotional health. For more information
about this small-group, 8 week program or to register, visit them online at
www.listeningmothers.org, email them at
info@listeningmothers.org or call (206)

Trimester Class
This class is a
combination of parenting education and support group. It provides a chance
to get together with other new moms, dads, and babies and share the
challenges and joy of the amazing life transition you're in the midst of.
The class is ideal if your baby is newborn-6 months old. You're also welcome
to join the class before your baby is born to get a head start on the
postpartum issues. The class meets at PSBC on Fridays from 10am to noon. $5
drop-in fee or $50 for 12 class punch card. The class is facilitated by Kat
Byrne. For more information, email Kat at
babymoondoula@earthlink.net
Karen
Shelver's Babywearing Class
Try your baby in different kinds of baby carrier, or use a doll if your baby
isn't here yet. The class costs $10 and runs from 10am-11am on the 3rd
Saturday of every month (15th July, 19th August, 16th September) at the
birth center. For more information about the classes or to register, call
Karen at (425) 681-3132 or email her at
KarenShelver@gmail.com. You can also visit her website at
www.backpack-baby.com.
Dr. Amy
Schulstad's Vaccination Seminar
This no-cost class will be held again on Monday July 24th at 7pm.
Vaccination can be one of the most bewildering issues for new parents. Most
pediatricians strongly advocate following the full vaccination schedule. Dr
Amy's seminar is for those who want to hear the other side of this issue
before deciding what is right for their child. The seminar will be held at
Health First Chiropractic, upstairs from Puget Sound Birth Center at 13128
Totem Lake Blvd. Ste. 203, Kirkland. To register, please call Health First
Chiropractic at 425-820-8837.
Dr Amy also has two other events scheduled for August: a nutrition seminar
and a women's wellness evening. Call her if you are interested and would
like more information.
Birth Zone Childbirth Classes
Birth Zone offers childbirth preparation classes for both first-time parents
and those needing a refresher class. See

Ellen Lockert is publishing a piece about birth for Emergency Medical
Services, and wants to portray for the EMT audience what a normal birth would look
like. So of course she wants to give them the
midwifery perspective.
Ellen is looking for a family who will allow for the birth to be filmed. The
idea is that the EMTs will see how a midwife would assist a birth, and then
try to replicate that same process in an emergency situation. She is
offering the family a $1000 reimbursement as well as copies of all recorded
footage. She already has one family signed up but would like to have a
"back-up family" lined up too.
If you are due before August 20th and would be interested in having your
birth filmed for this purpose, please contact Ellen directly:

this year the program would like to know how people feel about nutrition
education, breastfeeding support programs, food available to clients and
customer service.
Public comments will be accepted until
