After doing tons of research and reading, I decided that I wanted a natural birth with a midwife. I chose to use the Puget Sound Birth Center after interviewing midwives and touring both the hospital and the birth center. At the birth center, I loved the big, homelike birth suites, philosophy that birth is a healthy, normal event, the involvement that the mother has in making decisions about her own birth, and the intelligent, gentle midwives. We felt good about the fact that the birth center is right near Evergreen Hospital and that the midwives aren't afraid to transfer to the hospital if extra medical intervention is necessary. The midwives also spend a lot more time with you at each prenatal visit than a typical OB. (As a bonus, a birth center birth costs much less than a hospital birth.) I'd definitely encourage any woman having a normal pregnancy to look into using a natural childbirth center.
